Things to Do in Rajkot

Pradhyuman Zoological Park is located near Lalpari Lake in Rajkot, Gujarat. It is commonly referred to as the Pradhyuman/Rajkot Prani Sanghralaya. The area covered by the park is 137 acres wide. Many locals and tourists visit this place as a popular picnic destination as an excursion or a school tour visit. 

Gandhi Museum, commonly referred to as Mahatma Gandhi Museum is located in the city of Rajkot. The museum is an attraction documenting and exhibiting the life and work of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He was an activist of Indian origin who fought for the country’s independence against the British colonizers.

Situated on the Kalawad Road, at a distance of 4 km from the Rajkot Junction, Swaminarayan Mandir is a revered Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Swaminarayan. Mostly known for its architectural brilliance, the temple is one of the most celebrated temples in Gujarat and is among the top tourist attractions in the city. 

Dividing the city of Rajkot along its east-west line, the Aji river is one of the most important rivers of the region. It supplies considerable water for drinking as well as for agricultural purposes. The Aji dam also has a garden and a zoo next to it, which makes it an even more attractive tourist destination.

Ishwariya Park is a popular place to visit, which is located in the city of Rajkot. The 77 acres park has a vast lake where boating can be enjoyed. The large, spacious park has a very tranquil environment where one can relax in the evening and take some time out of their wrapped up life.

The Lalpari Lake located at the outskirts of Rajkot is a delightful place where one can spend an afternoon lounging. The lake has a captivating landscape that entices its audience and makes them wish to spend the entire day staring at its beauty. The glimmering lake along with the lush green surroundings makes an excellent picnic spot as well. 

Rotary Dolls Museum located in Rajkot exhibits an array of dolls from all around the world. Each doll in the museum unique as they tell tales of different traditions and cultures around the world. Rotary Dolls Museum is the best place for children to visit as it is a fun way to gain knowledge.

One of the largest and oldest museums in Gujarat, the Watson Museum contains many artefacts and belongings of the Jadeja Rajput dynasty, who were also the founder of the princely state of Rajkot. Other than the collections, the museum also has an extensive library. 

Ranjit Vilas Palace is located in Rajkot, Gujarat, and was built by Maharaja of Wankaner H.H. Amarsinhji. It covers an area of 225 acres. There are no visitors allowed inside the palace except for under special circumstances granted that they have permission from the present descendant of the Jhala dynasty - High Royal Highness Dr. Digvijay Sinh Zala. 

Situated at a distance of 5 km from Rajkot in Gujarat, Nyari Dam is a scenic picnic spot that is frequented by several tourists. The spot provides the much needed respite from the chaos and hustle bustle of the city. There are a few eateries and food stalls at the spot.

Rampara Wildlife Sanctuary is sprawling acres of land boasting of rich wildlife, both in terms of flora and fauna. Considered to be a haven for bird lovers since the sanctuary attracts a lot of migratory birds in the likes of ring dove, large gray blabber, yellow-throated sparrow, purple sunbird, etc. Other common animals that can be found here are blue bull, hyena, foxes, jackals, and wolves etc.

If religious places often make their way to your itinerary, do not miss out on the Jagat Mandir. This mandir is a universal temple which holds the idols of several deities and takes into account religions like Hindu, Christian, Island and Buddhism. However, the chief deity to which the temple is devoted to is Shri Ramakrishna Paramohansa. 

Khambhalida Caves, also known as Rajkot Caves, are a set of three Buddhist caves. They are located near the Gondal town in the Rajkot district of Gujarat. They were discovered in the year 1958 by a renowned archaeologist, P.P. Pandya. Out of the three caves, the centre cave is named chaitya and is a worn out stupa.

Around 35 kilometres south of Rajkot lies the quaint city of Gondal. The city retains its grandeur and sense of royalty with the help of the Riverside Palace and the Darbargadh. The Riverside Palace which was built in 1875 is now a heritage hotel The Darbargadh is open to visitors for a small fee.

Racecourse ground in Rajkot covers an area of 15,000 sq. yard and is house to many fun frolic and happening places, major among them being Bal Bhavan. As the name suggests, it mainly attracts children of all age groups. Racecourse eventually converted into park and playgrounds exhibiting various sports grounds and activity rooms for children and elders.

Situated at a distance of 17 km from Gondal city near Rajkot, Analgadh Hill is a small hillock and a popular weekend getaway and an escape from the chaos and din of the city. Boasting of stunning views of the valley below and sweeping views of the picturesque surroundings, there is also an ancient Hindu temple on the hill.

As the city of Rajkot is best known for being the place where Mahatma Gandhi spent his early years, visiting the Kaba Gandhi no Delo is one of the most important as well as popular attractions. The place is now a museum with preserved artefacts and a pictorial tour which depicts the life of Gandhi. An NGO also holds classes on the grounds. 

The main item of interest in a Gujarati meal is the Thali which is an assortment of rice, dal, desserts and other delicious items which make a full course meal. This also includes a curry which is extremely famous in Rajkot. For desserts, Basundi, Shrikhand and Malpua is a must have when visiting not only Rajkot but Gujarat as a whole.
