cartoonish inadequacies

Location, parking.

Arrived on a slow winter Thursday at 2:20pm with heavy luggage, long cobblestone schlep from parking, and front door was locked. After buzzing and waiting, our delightful welcome (!) to Montepulciano town was the descent of the ill-mannered innkeeper, no hello, angrily banging her finger on what appeared to be a taped piece of paper stating check-in was at 3:00pm. I think we were the only guests at the hotel. With this uncivilized reception, we went on enduring her impolitely gesticulating and muttering at us and then simply departing upstairs... leaving us alone in the downstairs foyer, confused and thoroughly annoyed. Her English suddenly improved when she acquiesced to allow us to store our luggage in the second-floor lobby, then reluctantly granted access to the room that was already prepped and waiting for us anyway. Place has a good location, dedicated parking, good balcony views, but needs a coat of paint and a reno. And more direly, an attitude adjustment, or remedial hospitality training. Thankfully very friendly and professional service at breakfast the following morning (which the innkeeper hadnt bothered explaining at check-in), different staff member. The hotel would say language barrier, or state some reason why wed be prevented from checking in 40 minutes early, not buying that at all. Won't be back here, loads of other options all over town.
