Good

For the price and how close it is to town it's a great hotel. Staff were very friendly and the breakfast was really nice. Free onsite parking is very handy too.

To be honest I've stayed here many times as I love the old setting and i thought are stay will as always be good but on this time it was not very good at all. Staff not helpful, Booked for breakfast and bar was not big and had to wait and we had to wait for ages for table to be cleared and wrong breakfast orded. On booking we put the car down for 4 days ? We got a parking fine and phoned hotel to report this.....out there hand nothing to do with us they say !! Well that wasn't helpful at all. Sadley I will not be booking at this hotel again.

Bed mattress uncomfortable. It needs to be replaced. I mentioned this to the receptionist.

Rooms are quite spacious, clean and cozy

a refrigerator could be useful, considering that the hotel is some distance away from the center and there are not many eateries around.

When I return to Colchester, there will be no need to search for another hotel.

Everything. The girl at Breakfast was brilliant. Tatiana on Reception was just great. I have worked in top hotels for most of my working life looking after Celebrities and Royalty and The Rose and Crown is a real Gem.

Lovely hotel, great rooms and fab location for walking into town & Castle Park

Hotel is very quaint with lovely oak beams, really beautiful, especially at Christmas! Room was large and quite modern, bed was very comfortable and the room was cleaned and towels freshened every day, even on Christmas Day! Really lovely place and friendly staff.

Nice rooms, not so helpful staff, not accessible

A good size 3 bed room with a good shower.

No lift, no accessible rooms and no support from staff to help my mum who has hurt her hip 2 days before and could not get up the many stairs and long corridor to the room. Our room was the farthest away room in a new build bit, not the nice old building and yet still was inaccessible. Staff just shrugged when asked for help.
