    The Crown and Mitre Hotel is located in the centre of Carlisle city centre, with shops and local historic attraction such as Carlisle Cathedral and Castle just 2 minutes' walk from the hotel. The Cr (Read More)own and Mitre retains its Edwardian-style traits throughout the property, including the rooms. The on site restaurant has a Table d’Hote Menu and is open from 6pm to 9pm. The hotel also has its own Mitre Bar, which serves drinks as well as wholesome dishes and snacks from 12noon to 9.30pm. Free WiFi is available throughout the hotel. The hotel has a limited free car park attached to the rear of the building, which is accessible via a different postcode to the hotels main address. Carlisle Train station is 7 minutes' walk from the Crown & Mitre.

    Central The breakfast staff were lovely
    We had to wait in heavy rain to be answered at the gate of car park by whom I learnt was the duty manager without a hello a wave or a nod. Not a great first impression. The lady at reception was helpful and polite but again not very chirpy. The bedroom had an awful smell of moth balls. There was a white stain on the coloured throw. The shower pipe had cracked so was badly leaking everywhere. The silver shower curtain pole was brown with rust. The wood was peeling off the door. Breakfast could have been local quality produce it was poor. The price definitely did not justify the badly neglected building and the poor standard of staffing. Oh and I forgot the carpets taped up with silver tape. We waited in the bar for a drink for quite sometime when it said to go to reception if no one was present. So went to reception only to be stood there for ages aswell so gave up on the drinks. Very very poor standard.

    I slipped on wet stairs in pool area. Broke 2 toes. My child has to find ice for me to reduce swelling. Hotel gave a plaster. Had to arrange own A&E transport

    Comfortable bed and touch of luxury with bedding but general refurb needed
    The bed and bedding were lovely - comfortable and luxurious.
    Lots of signs of TLC being lacking - sticky tape over lift button, some bar seats very worn. Generally needing refurb.

    Single room bed was exceptionally comfortable. Beautiful linen and very clean room. Room was very spacious for a single. Very elegant hotel with lots of art decor.

    Edwardian elegance in central location, and also warm.
    The price I paid was very good value for New Years Eve. This is a very attractive period hotel, but unlike some period hotels it has a modern level of comfort. The room was lovely and warm all the time and the shower was good. The wifi was excellent. The location in the market square is perfect, very central and right next to the cathedral, but much quieter in the evening than the part of town where the other large hotels are. I would definitely stay here again.
    The leg room under the desk was limited by some sort of shelf. There was a noticeable draught around the window blowing right on the bed.
