Kiloran is what might be called a "mother in law" suite in the US - a self-contained bedroom/kitchen area attached but separate from a main house.
The best things about it - the hosts were lovely, helpful and friendly. They will offer suggestions and know where to go, both top 10 sites and less traveled ones. Facilities are comfortable and bright. There is a huge window with a glorious view (slight negatives - it doesn't open, so it can get stuffy if the sun is coming directly in, and you're on the ground floor, so there is a small chance of someone looking in).
The area is quiet and there's a seal colony at the end of the road, that is a treat to visit at low tide.
For those with movement issues, there are no steps.
To help decide if this is right for you:
You're right next to a main house, and you can hear folks move about. No big deal unless you were looking for absolute privacy.
This rental wouldn't work without a car. It takes about 10-15 minutes to get to the main town, Portree. There are no services close by, the road is residential. I liked the quiet.
If you're driving, Skeabost takes about an hour to reach from the Kyle of Lochalsh bridge or about 75 minutes from the Armadale ferry, but is well situated to see much of the island - basically right in the middle.
Facilities: There's a complete orientation manual waiting for you on arrival, along with breakfast items (bread, cereals, milk, OJ, and some pastries) along with some home baked goody. There was also salt, pepper, some cooking oil and some butter. The kitchen is simple you could make eggs, toast, a salad or boil pasta. You want a smoothie, bring your own blender.
Small things that would make a difference: some containers and sandwich or quart sized bags, a dish rack, an empty pitcher to chill water, and a small fan. Skye is not hot, but the room doesn't cross-ventilate so well.
