Our families are avid visitors to Wanaka since 2008. Weve stayed at booked various accommodations and enjoyed staying in Wanaka every two years for the Wanaka Airshow.
This year however, we were very disappointed with our visit staying at Kylies Castle. A cool reception awaited our visit to Kylies Castle in June 2023. We stayed at Kylies Castle prior to it being renovated. At two of our previous stays, Wanaka Selections offered the Krook in 2016 and 2018 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We enjoyed the position, ambience and all the Krook had to offer.
This time around, we had three families booked to stay at Kylies Castle and receptionist provided only two sets of keys indicating thats all weve got. This required negotiations within our group re key locations.
When we arrived at Kylies Castle at 3pm, we were greeted by a power outage, created much anxiety for all involved. What time would the power be reconnected? How can we cook our dinner? Will we be warm enough as it was getting very cold. We had already unpacked and did not want to move to an alternative address. A response to connection to power appeared to be problematic taking three different electricians to replace and reconnect the power pole fuse. The last electrician who connected the power indicated that the fuse could only take 65 amps, when in actual fact the house created much more and that this would happen again if the electricals were not updated. Luckily the power returned at 7pm. When we contacted Wanaka Selection, we were advised that the power should come on within a few hours but we could move houses around the corner if we wanted too. But we had unpacked and didnt want to pack and return to the house. We were not offered any candles or matches to combat the lack of lighting. It would be a good idea to have some under the sink, just in case the power goes out in the future.
Instructions on how to use the oven wouldve been useful.
