It is within a 10-minute walk from Shijo, (Read More)Karasuma and Kawaramachi subway stations. Free Wi-Fi is provided at the public area. Fitted with tatami (woven-straw) flooring and traditional futon bedding, each room offers a relaxing ambience and facilities like a flat-screen TV, a fridge and a telephone. Yukata robes and tea sets are available in the room. The en suite bathroom has a bath tub and free toiletries. Guests will be greeted with matcha green tea and Kyoto sweets at time of check-in. While staying at Honkan Matsui, guests can also receive massage in the room for a fee. Drinks vending machines and free luggage storage are available on site. The entire property has been renovated in April 2013. Dinner is available for an additional fee upon prior reservation. JR Kyoto Station is a 6-minute subway ride from Karasumaoike Station, which is a 10-minute walk from the property. Nijo-jo Castle, one of the World Heritage Sites, can be reached within a 20-minute walk.

    Only spent one night and enjoyed the stay
    Beautiful traditional tatami mat room. Friendly and helpful staff. The futons were comfortable and the private garden lovely. Breakfast was Japanese style and was very good. Loved the complementary drinks when we checked in. Public onsen was empty and relaxing .
    The kaiseki dinner was ok but way too much food and not all to my taste but that is the deal with ryokan meals.

    Fantastic in every possible way - exceeded all our expectations
    The place was beautiful and the staff were lovely and the traditional Japanese breakfast served in our room was quite a spread! Well worth it, a great start to our trip.

    Everything. Matsui Honkan is an exceptional place that I highly recommend: beautiful public bath, super friendly staff, amazing Japanese breakfast, incredible Japanese room for four Everything is top notch!

    The best hotel experience both of us has ever had. The room was huge and the futon beds were very comfortable, the staff were incredibly helpful and kind. We will definitely return here in our next trip to Kyoto.
