    Disappointing
    Comfy but cold!
Spacious room with tasteful decor. Great breakfast and breakfast/housekeeping staff were lovely
We were not allocated the room I'd booked. The room and bathroom were freezing, and the double bed was 2 singles pushed together.

    Passable
Characterful hotel in lovely location but let down by the room and lack of management intervention.
This is a characterful pub in a nice village. Well located for our planned trips around the area. Front of house staff (bar and restaurant) lovely and very helpful. The food was excellent (compliments to the kitchen staff). Enjoyed both breakfast and evening meals. Parking was easy enough and I think our experience (looking at some negative reviews) was helped by the time of year we stayed when the property is perhaps less busy.
Communication between staff and management seems a problem. On our arrival we identified that the heating (radiators) in the room and bathroom (room 2) were not working. We were advised to turn it on ! It was already (we noted that the radiator on the landing which I turned on was also not hot and suspect the simple answer was that the heating was just not turned on at all). We were then provided with an electric heater (helpfully by the bar staff) but this in fact was only a four speed oscillating cold air fan (no use). We reported this. We reported the heating again the following day to the breakfast team but no action by management. That afternoon we purchased our own electric fan heater for the room which we used for the duration. Staff asked (in passing) on the night before we were to leave if the heating had been sorted. we advised that it had not. At know time did a manager / owner take command of the situation or communicate directly with us. We have no issue at all with the staff but have been disappointed by management. Additionally, the room decoration was poorly carried out and tired. Electrical fittings were not particularly good and it was difficult / impossible to set the electric shower to a good temperature as the heating control moved by itself under the pressure of water. Many of our observations may have been overlooked if the room (and bathroom) had been warm. This is great shame.

Never visited Rothbury before, great base to explore the surrounding area.
As I was leaving before breakfast, they offered to leave me a packed lunch out for collection on departure. Whilst no car park, there was free on road parking outside. Evening meal was very good. Location was ideal for walkers and cyclists.
