Villa Oceano

I have never had a negative experience with a rental until this house. Our host, Miguel Coelho, was so rude and did not want to help us My group of 5 women 50+, picked this house because it had 4 bedrooms. Only 3 of the bedrooms had sheets, 1 queen and 3 twins. The 4th room w/ the 2nd queen bed had no sheets. I inquired about the sheets & Miguel refused to bring the queen sheets. He stated Villa Oceano was prepared to comfortably accommodate you, that is, 5 people in 3 suites. We rented the entire house planning to use 4 bedrooms & the 2nd queen bed. The reservation did not state restrictions on # of rooms we could use. There was not a hair dryer. Miguel insisted there was a hair dryer but could not tell me where (we searched the house). Miguel told me he would need to charge us a $250 deposit to bring one over. I engaged booking.com who had Miguel bring one which came 1/2 way through our stay. There was no info book about the house or area; no info about where the closest beaches are, local markets, local restaurants, info about check-out etc. The house was dated and dark; the pictures have been enhanced to make it look nicer than it actually is. Cushions on the patio furniture were too small for the sofa. Ivy was overgrown on outside shower & grill. Very few amenities in the kitchen (old dusty and unsanitary lace on the cabinet shelves); no wine glasses, sharp knives, paper towels or cleaning supplies. Bathrooms had 1 roll of toilet paper and tiny soap the size of a slice of cheddar cheese. The musty odor overtook our entire group when we entered the house. One of the bathrooms smelled like sewage. There were cob webs. The kitchen had ants on the floor & counter. All the showers had mold. One bedroom had normal sized bath towels, however, the other bedrooms had small thin bath towels that barely fit around our bodies; they would be used for a child.

I booked this 4 bed villa for 5 people. On arrival only 3 bedrooms were made up with sheets. I messaged the owner (Hi where do I find spare sheets - two of the beds dont have them!) expecting a reply to say hed drop some off or which cupboard to find them in. There then followed accusations that I had brought more than 5 people and an insistence that we were only allowed to use 3 rooms. I patiently explained we were 3 generations of family and my teenage kids wanted their own rooms, which is why Id booked a 4 bedroom Villa, but he insisted that we should all share. He refused to supply sheets. Two days later while we were out he got his cleaners to remove the sheets from my elderly mothers room (which was full of her stuff) and took away a set of towels too. The spitefulness of that act left me furious. I got in touch with booking.com who agreed he had advertised it as use of all 4 bedrooms with no mention of not being allowed to use them all. They said he hurled abuse at them when they asked him to provide sheets. Rather than provide an extra set of sheets he got booking.com to tell me to leave (at midnight!) or that if I asked nicely I would get some sheets. I do not respond well to creepy old bullies and so I did not. We never did get our sheets and I spent the whole holiday sleeping on a tablecloth. Even with sheets, the beds are uncomfy. No duvets are provided though its cold at night, and the blankets from the cupboard smell funky. One of the bathrooms stinks of drains and leaves you ankle deep in water when you shower. The wifi does not work. The pool is cold and the owner told me that he refuses to heat it over 24degrees, even in late October. Some of the light bulbs are blown. The showers are terrible. The pool table has seen better days. The back gate is locked with no entry signs so you cant access the short cut to the beach. The bedroom doors are ill-fitting and make a loud crack every time you open them, which wakes everyone up.
