Rooms need to be freshened up for the price being charged. We also stayed there NYE. Our room faced a private party that had music going until 430. Not acceptable (even on NYE). Hotel did nothing to solve the problem.

Definitely has a lot of heritage, and some phenomenal historical figures have stayed here. But the hotel has not been maintained well and has fallen quickly into disrepair and the staff dont seem to be treated very well/ arent accommodating.
Rooms are old, musty and poorly maintained. Service is poor

A disappointing stay at a beautiful historic hotel
The ambiance was very nice. We did travel during the Christmas period, so the hotel was fully decorated. Also, some of the staff were attentive and easy to work with, especially at the front desk when checking us in and fixing a problem we had with the booking.
We were disappointed with the service and room overall. Given the long history of the hotel, the staff were under-trained and many were bordering on amateur. The breakfast staff were particularly unfocused and unable to take basic instructions. You have to ask for things multiple times and you can't expect any proactive service at all. The maintenance of the hotel was in need of improvement. We were in a suite and every single time we used the bath it broke, this would have been funny but was actually kind of annoying, further the light in the room was very poor. Also, random banging and noise heard at all hours - there were workers in the rooms above us literally banging at midnight the night we left. Lastly be wary of the tax applied to spa treatments as well! It added up to nearly 30% overall - 10% VAT and another 20% mysterious Govt tax...
