Hilton Garden Inn Snowdonia

The rooms were a nice size, they were well planned with furniture placement and shower and toilet facility very modern. The kind size bed was lovely as was having a large flat screen tv and sofa bed, we also enjoyed the Smeg brand kettle and fridge inside the room. The in house restaurant was very nice for food, service good, decor lovely and the food was fantastic along with a large variety and fresh produce. The spa facilities also were nice, there were more than one thermal pool and sauna/steam room. The location is great for a small village 20 minutes away for food and drinks and outdoor clothing shops - also has a park and a few pubs. 20 minutes down the road is a lovely waterfalls and if you drive out further of course you can hike the infamous Snowdon mountain. Plenty of walks around if you dont wish to hike such as lovely forest national trust paths etc.

Check in wasnt up to scratch with a Hilton hotel, besides being busy due to is being NYE the front of house staff seemed to have a lack of enthusiasm, very blunt and quite rude when we attempted to ask questions regarding facilities etc. The breakfast is a typical buffet where the food is warm at best - sausages quite tough and if you want to order eggs as you like you have to go up to the buffet. Wait for the chef, ask then wait 5 minutes or go down eat then go back up to collect, at busy times they didnt remember who had ordered what so sometimes the eggs were given to whoever was asking for them and they were ready there. The dog friendly portion of the restaurant is essentially the bar with very high up tables and stools - not great for sitting comfortable for a nice meal and the dog only section allows others to sit there with no dogs so when it was busy we couldnt have lunch as no tables available at the dog friendly section due to other families taking them all up. The aircon control panel in the room does not work - it was confirmed the hotel have control of this and it is set on a timer on certain points of the day so you cannot control the temp of the room you have to call down. We noted it was password coded if you wanted it on outside the allocated times - not great when you have a dog in the room and it was 22 degrees. The spa is nice but overpriced considering you do not get any treatments. 60 per person to only use a pool and sauna is not justifiable. The robes also were very worn with broken belt loop holders. All in all if youre wanting a nice relaxing stay in Snowdonia there are much more variety of hotels which offer the basics better for a fraction of the cost. The real driving factor for this hotel is their water sports facilities which are shut during winter.

Service was terrible. The queue for the evening meal was ridiculous despite me booking a table. Once seated it was a long time before our order was taken then when the food finally did come it was like warm and bland (I had Thai curry). We had to wait ages for the bill. We complained at reception and they said they hadnt planned the rota to accommodate so many visitors! The shower in the bathroom dripped all night keeping us awake. We had to put a towel under it. Breakfast is served until 10:30 however when we went at 10 there was hardly any food left and they were starting to clear things away. Poor!
