We chose this hotel because of a promotional rate we saw on booking.com, and we were very familiar with the Katong area, having stayed on the East Coast for our Christmas vacation since 2014 or 2015. It is much closer to the church where my husband and I planned to attend daily Mass, and is literally right next door to I12 Katong, which has everything one could possibly need. Killiney Kopitiam can be accessed without stepping outside, and the Holiday Inn wifi was so strong I could access it even while having a light dinner at Killiney.
We had read reviews that the breakfast was ample but basic, but we found it to be quite substantial, with different dimsum, breakfast meats and hot noodle offerings every day! Fruits were fresh and well selected, and we enjoyed the low-fat yogurt in different flavors. Hotel staff were quick to retrieve used plates and utensils. The lobby has vendo machines offering freshly squeezed orange juice (our favorite!), ice cream and even Starbucks coffee (the coffee selections of the hotel's coffee machine at the breakfast buffet are quite good, though.
We had expected the room to be compact - the size was disclosed - but it was more than just roomy enough for two adults. Soap and shampoo (which smelled wonderful) were provided via dispenser instead of individual bars and tubes, and this was not a problem at all. Housecleaning came at almost the same time every afternoon, and were quick and efficient.
The staff were exceptional, quick to meet our needs, whether it was to borrow an umbrella or to call a taxi (even to a distant part of Singapore.) Special thanks to Mariz, who took excellent (quick, efficient, warm and friendly) care of us from the time we arrived.
The hotel sits in an amazing area with countless food options (I have yet to tick off all the restaurants I had read about and wanted to try on Joo Chiat Road), and the beach is an easy walk away.
