A staff room and stairwell was right behind our bed. Staff wore hard-heeled shoes (!?) + clomped up + down stairs from early morning to late at night.
The button on the toilet was not working - the toilet would run + the toilet couldn't flush.
Staff came to fix it but the problem returned on next flush + a man from reception came to look at it. He appeared very annoyed. He plucked two sanitary plastic bags from the wall + accused me of flushing them down the toilet. I was appalled + told him I'm not that stupid. He said this problem never happens... then showed me how to fix it!! Clearly this is an existing issue as he knew just what to do, including having to remove the wall plate. He said in an accusatory tone 'well, this hotel is very very old' - as if an excuse that its toilets are bound to fail (the toilets are modern).
I told him I did not expect to have to remove wall plates + fix toilet buttons + we would need to be moved to another room. This made him more more agitated + I felt extremely uncomfortable communicating with him further, so he left. I did not feel comfortable approaching staff further about this issue + was worried about seeing this man again. After many jiggling toilet buttons later, we found only the right toilet button was failing, so we used the left one + didn't approach staff again (thank God).
The worst of it was the response I received upon contacting the hotel when we returned home weeks later. The staff member was defended, it was suggested we were making all this up + their passive aggression certainly proved there is a culture of hostility at this hotel (just read the many bad reviews).
Important: they respond to their other bad reviews with the same hostility + blame-shifting as their private response with me. ANY organisation that does this with reviews/legitimate customer complaints is not to be trusted or respected. Stay tuned for their passive-aggressive slaying of this review.
