Good location.

Our 2nd visit to the Royal (stayed in Hardy room) & was quite disappointed - the room was very tired particularly the bathroom & in need of some upgrades. The main problem we encountered was a lack of heating - all radiators cold - reported to reception who said it would be fixed or a heater provided - this didn't happen - after 2 nights (we stayed for 3) in a very cold room the heating was fixed & a heater also provided. The lady at reception did offer her sincere apologies & a free night as compensation but would are unable to use the free night in the timescale offered - the lady did say she would try to organise some form of discount on a stay later in the year but a week has now passed & no email has been forthcoming.

Lovely room in a well situated hotel, but disappointing service and poor quality breakfast.

The situation and proximity to the sea was great. The Nelson room was very comfortable and the facilities in the room were very good.

Very disappointed that on arrival - after a seven hour drive - the kitchen was closed due to lack of staff. No food available at 7.00pm. We had to unpack and go out on a very rainy night to find a restaurant. We stayed for three nights and on two mornings breakfast was extremely disappointing. We waited 40 minutes for poached eggs on toast which were not very nice. At 9.30am no fresh fruit was available - fruit juice jugs empty- even water jugs empty. Full English breakfast looked like it had been thrown on the plate and the constituent parts were of poor quality and tasteless. This was the only occasion when there was any real opportunity for interaction with staff but it was not forthcoming. We were so disappointed that on our third morning despite having paid for breakfast we chose not to have it. We left early to have a superb breakfast elsewhere. Even the girl in the bar on our first evening appeared very grumpy and wanted us to know that this wasnt her job!! Also did not expect to have to pay 9.60 for each days parking as the hotel has no parking available for guests. This information did not appear in any of the hotel information pre booking.

Great location and easy to park

Bar and restaurant shut at 8pm so we had to order a Dominoes pizza for delivery, they forgot to tell us when we pre booked dinner for 8pm.

Exceptional

Terrific Boxing day stay

We liked the position right on the beach and laying in bed listening to the waves, tumbling over the pebbles. Relaxing on the balcony with a glass of wine or a coffee, and when it's chilly, there is a heater.

Although the tea/coffee facilities are very good, it would be helpful to have a light to see on a dark morning. The bathroom is great(Hamilton room), but an extra shelf near the sink would be even better.
