    Excellent 3 night visit at Royal Island. Fantastic service from all the staff, in particular Prasad, our host, who looked after all our needs as well as Osam and Alibaba - our guides on a snorkeling trip. We also thoroughly enjoyed the band that played most night (Aga and Joyce) and some of the other activities. We had the all-inclusive option and food and drink choices were good for a short trip - if we had stayed longer, we might have tried the a la carte options. The room was very comfortable (sunset beach villa) and clean, with the beach just footsteps away. We snorkeled a bit on the house reef, which was very nice but the snorkeling trip was brilliant (saw turtles, sharks, dolphins etc). The transfer to the island was smooth - we had to wait an hour for the domestic flight to a nearby island, but were then immediately ushered to the speedboat for the final 10 minute ride. On our return, the domestic flight was going to be late, so Prasad organized us to take a speedboat to another nearby resort to catch a sea-plane direct to Male, ensuring we were on time for our international flight.

    Food is average Extra payment requested for Christmas night dinner (mandatory!), despite the fact that I already paid for a full-board. This was overpriced and not worth it. Making it mandatory is also annoying

    We liked the location. The sea and beach are fantastic. Overall, the stay is pleasant due to this.
    The food could be much better. Most dishes were the same with just a twist in the name. The curries and meats were too saulty and left us feeling thirsty. The fish was generally poorly cooked without variety and mostly dry and tastless. We did not see good basic seafood such as shrimps, prawns, or clums, let alone any delicacies. The theme nights were generic and lacking in taste. General details could be better. Examples: Using excess vegatable oils in too many fried dishes or overfrying the omelettes. Maintaining the pool tables better, the que sticks were out of shape. The chess boards were old and broken. The backgammon boards were old and unusable. The music in the bar area is not well organised and outdated. The live music was poor. The supervisor is scolding the staff without caring or being aware that the guests could hear!!

    Fantastic holiday we will come back next year!
    We liked our beach villas which were close to the main restaurant and pool and had a fabulous house reef to snorkel. They were connecting family beach villas with a double door in between. The rooms were cleaned twice daily and our bed was beautifully decorated with flowers on several days during our stay. Many thanks to Mr Razib for this! We had booked full board and the buffet was excellent. Breakfast lunch and dinner was themed every day and there was plenty of choice for everyone. Special thanks to Mr Mithila who greeted us in the restaurant every day and made sure that our holiday was going well. Also a special thanks to Mr Abdulla whos service was impeccable in the main restaurant and who did his very best to please every guest. We loved the live band during dinner and in the bar. What a great voice and fantastic guitar player. We were appointed a relations officer on the first day. Thank you Prasad for keeping us up to date of the daily activities and for arranging our domestic flights to Male. We loved the diving centre. Special thanks to Mr Alex and his team who took our family out on numerous dives. We loved the lagune around the island which was full with baby reef sharks and the reef around the lagune especially in front of our villas was full of corals and fish. We saw lemon shark, turtle, black tip reef shark, spotted eagle ray and all possible tropical fish during snorkeling around the island. We loved the plantation of the island with lots of palmtrees, orchids and tropical flowers. They also installed swings and benches to relax on. They had a nice bar at the pool with pool tables were the kids had a lot of fun. Also ping pong tables and indoor badminton was available.

    Although the hotel did a lot of efforts with fogging against mosquitos we got quite a few bites so anti mosquito spray is a must if you come to maledives. The trips organised were quite expensive for a group of five. We did the excursion to the sandbank with snorkeling and turtle island and we paid more than a thousand dollars for 5 persons. Also the dives were pretty expensive around 160 dollar for a dive for 1 person so for a family it was quite expensive. We had booked full board but no drinks were included only water.

    Excellent resort with amazing staff - probably best in March/April for sun and fewer mozzies!
    The food was excellent, especially at the a la carte restaurant. The staff were amazing, so friendly and couldn't do enough for you. The Beach pool villa was excellent - recently refurbished and well appointed, and the premium all inclusive package was worthwhile for us. The additional excursions were a bonus and really enjoyable. The island itself was a nice size - small enough to feel quite intimate, but large enough for a decent walk all around the beach. The house reef was very good and easily accessible, with sheltered lagoons created for less confident swimmers/snorkelers.
    The weather was slightly more inclement than anticipated - usually the South West monsoon has passed by early Dctober, but this year it dragged on until the first week in December which meant a lot more rain and cloud, which in turn gave rise to a plague of mosquitos, which was probably the worst thing about the holiday, as you were continually thinking about where to go in order to avoid them - you weren't even safe in your inside/outside bathroom!
