This hotel is a bit outdated furniture wise however it was adequate and fit for purpose. The carpet in the room was stained in places and some of the chairs in the bar were also stained.
When we arrived we were told we should book for the evening meal if we required one which we did for 6.00pm however when we went down at 4.45pm we were asked if we wanted food we said that we had booked for 6.00pm and we were told that we needn't have booked and if we wanted to eat earlier we could as they were not busy which we did.
The next night when we went to the bar to order food we noticed there was a wedding reception taking place and the staff were advising people that the earliest a meal could be ordered was 7.30pm which after 10 minutes went to 8.00pm. When I asked if there was anywhere nearby that we could get something to eat bearing in mind that it was raining heavily at the time I was told there was a restaurant on the main road which we could walk to (approximately 10 minutes walk downhill) or alternatively we could get a taxi to the nearest town. We were not advised of the wedding party prior to this, and there is no reference in the hotel description that we would not be able to obtain a meal prior to 7.30pm if there is a wedding reception. There didn't appear to be a permanent person on the bar, which meant you had to wait until someone came to serve.
The first room we were given looked out onto the dust bins. My husband requested to be moved, and we were given another room that had a very good view of Wallace Monument. Considering when we booked in, we were advised that the hotel was very quiet, why were we given the first room?
