We were asked to pay a deposit for our room using a link via the Booking messaging service from the hotel. I called to ensure this was required and was told yes. When I clicked on the link I was charged the full amount for the room. When I queried with the hotel they told me that I had been scammed via the messaging service. Upon arriving at the hotel we were asked to pay in cash for the 2 nights. We queried this again and were told that we had been scammed and the payment taken from our account hadn't been taken by the hotel. We've made a claim via Booking.com and the hotel but 6 weeks on and we have still not had our money back.
To make matters worse, our room was full of damp, the pillows and bedding had damp spores all over them. The staff tried their hardest to make the room smell better but it was impossible. As the hotel was fully booked we couldn't change rooms until the next day.
I don't like leaving bad reviews but this was the worst experience I've ever had with a hotel. I couldn't fault the onsite staff for their helpful attitude but we were hounded to pay for the room by different people within the first few hours of arriving.
The location is great but the hotel needs work and for 100 per night (or 200 per night as it ended up costing us) the room we stayed in was no better than a budget hostel (in fact worst than any hostel we've stayed in).
