The Islander

When I arrived the door code that was sent to me via text wasnt working. I called the 800# and was given a different code to access a spare key in a mounted key box. Once I was finally able to get into to condo I was meet with an overwhelming smell of mildew and mess in the kitchen. It appeared that someone had been there working on a leak under the kitchen sink. Everything had been pulled out and left on the counters with the exception of a bucket left under the pipes. There were soaking wet towels in the sink and on the floor next to the dishwasher. I again called and explained the scenario. I was told there was no one available to come to the property since it was after hours, I arrived around 10 PM, but they would put in the request and have someone call me at 8 AM before they headed over to address the concerns. At 8:30 the next morning I had not received a phone call yet from anyone and called the 800# again to inform them. A little after 9 AM I received a call from a local representative from Vacasa. She said that she had been informed of the issue and also told me there was a big leak the day before that had been fixed but the damage from the leak under the sink were not able to be fixed until after our stay. She said she would send housekeeping over to clean up. I told her I had already washed the wet towels that were left, but had not started the dishwasher that had dirty dishes left from the previous tenants because I was not sure if the leak was fixed or not. I had explained to her how the electronic keypad was not working and we had one key to access the condo. She said it probably needed to be reset by maintenance. A little after our phone call I received a text stating she had gotten hold of housekeeping and they should be there around noon and if I could please start the dishwasher. I replied back with yes and we packed up and left for the beach.

The condo itself was perfect. It was comfortable, well decorated and we loved the huge balcony. The little office nook was perfect for the kids "playroom". There's a pretty view of the dunes and a little bit of ocean from the balcony, and there is a designated parking spot right by the steps. Check in was easy with the keypad (though I had to try a few times juggling kids, my phone and a however many digit code bc I couldn't type it in fast enough. If I'm grading the actual living space, I would give it a 10. Very nice touch adding the dog bed and bowls for feeding!! It's always appreciated when we can find nice pet-friendly lodging!!

My only "complaints" are out of the owners control, but more on the property maintenance. The area DESPERATELY needs to be treated for mosquitos! We COULD NOT walk to the beach though it was very close. We RAN to the boardwalk and were (NOT exaggerating) swarmed with hundreds of mosquitos. You could SEE them like a little cloud following us. We had bug spray on but my children's faces and neck were all bit up on our first night there. It was so awful. We ended up not using the beach access at all and drove into Port A (which kinda sucked bc that part of the reason I decided to splurge on this property for the beach access). The other thing (minor because we didn't use it) was the game room). If there was heat or A/C available, it wasn't on. There were some fans but it was VERY muggy in there. There's no way we could have stayed in there for any period of time. The rest of the property was great. I love how it's not easy for small children to find their way into the pool area (latches on the inside of the gate). The only improvement I could see to the inside is also minor and just a nice touch would be providing some coffee/sugar for guests. :) I couldn't find a remote for the living room TV, but we were able to control it from the Spectrum box (figured that out the 2nd night).
