The Village has lost its way. It's like an onion, once you peel back a layer there's more...
I've been a guest a few times each year at this Village Hotel Leeds South since at least 2013. Back then it felt modern and fresh and the higher spec choice from the local Premier Inn. In 2015 I previously gave this hotel a 9.6 Superb rating on Booking.com
Fast forward ten years and today I'm laid in bed at 3am googling if the local Premier Inn has any availability, as I'd really rather move hotels than stay here for the final night of our 3 night stay.
Either Village Hotels or this specific hotel have changed their definition of a "Club Room". These used to be the Upper Deck rooms which were larger and had a bath, a coffee machine, Sky TV etc. Now a "Club Room" is a standard double room, but you can choose to pay for parking and access to the gym/swim for an upgraded price. So technically you could just book a double then pay for parking and the gym and it'd work out around the same price. But the real swizz is the photo on Booking.com for Club Room is an Upper Deck room not a Standard Double.
This all started at check in where I had a rather strong conversation with the woman running the "self" check in who issued me Room 213, and I explained my expectation was a larger room, after all I'd paid an upgraded price. She told me that all rooms are Club Rooms and it's pot luck if you get a bigger one. She advised 213 was the only room available as the hotel was fully booked.
The last time we stayed here the air conditioning in our double room wasn't working, and the carpet was soaking wet where the housekeeping staff had to clean up the previous guests vomit next to the bed, as the aroma still lingered at our late evening check in.
