Tanuf Ruins

Tanuf is a small village located halfway between the two largest cities of Oman, near Nizwa and Bahla. The ruins of Tanuf are the result of Oman’s Imamate Rebellion of the 1950s. It is famous for its historical ruins and also for the Tanuf drinking water brand. ‘Tanuf’ branded water is sourced and bottled in a factory from the freshwater at Wadi Tanuf.

The village was damaged and abandoned during the Jabal Akhdar Wars, and the only thing which remains is the remnants of the village.  This ruined village becomes mesmerizing on the backdrop of the Al Hajar Mountains. Though the village is surrounded by dust, the visitors get ample opportunities to click their memories. Its remnants compel the visitors to explore the ruined memories of the Tanuf villagers. Tanuf was once a famous village in the Jebel Akhdar mountain range, and was lost only recently.  Until 1950’s it was a typical village like other villages with its own culture and simple lifestyle.
