Indigo has long been expanding its wings in the low-cost segment. Soon, it will begin flying non-stop on the route to
Hanoi,
Vietnam. GoAir will follow the lead and will also add flights to
Cambodia. Surely, this will offer great delight and relief to
Indian travellers touring South Asia.
Indigo will start operating flights to Hanoi, from
Kolkata. Subject to approval, the flights will begin October 3, 2019 onward. William Boutlet, Chief Commercial Officer of IndiGo was recorded saying, “It is truly a very special moment for all of us at IndiGo as it is the first route connecting Kolkata to Hanoi. This milestone reflects our relentless focus and commitment while enabling the Government’s “Act East” vision, in further strengthening the network between eastern corridors of India and the Southeast Asia region.” GoAir’s schedule for
Phnom Penh and Hanoi is still under the covers. Currently, there are no direct flights from India to Vietnam. Jet Airways did experiment on the same but the flights were soon discontinued.
Singapore Airlines,
Malaysia Airlines, Malindo Air and Thai Lion Air fly between
Mumbai and Hanoi with the one-way fare currently coming up to around INR 18,000. With Indigo and GoAir stepping in, the fares shall see a significant drop of over INR 8000. Indigo also offers flights to other South Asian countries including Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore and
Thailand. Go-Air has covered
Phuket,
Male,
Muscat and
Abu Dhabi for now!
