In the wake of the terror attacks in Colombo, Indian carriers Air India and Indigo Airlines are providing a full fee waiver on rescheduling and cancellation of flight tickets for passengers travelling to and from the capital city. While Air India is offering this service for travel period till 24th April, Indigo has extended the same till 30th April.
The terror attack in Colombo, Sri Lanka on Sunday that left more than 200 people dead and over 500 people injured was deadliest in the country's history. A dusk-to-dawn curfew was imposed in the city soon after the attacks, leaving locals and tourists stranded in their homes or at the airport. The Bandaranaike International Airport is packed majorly with tourists wanting to leave the country as soon as possible.
An official tweet from Indigo said, "In light of the recent events in Colombo, full fee waiver on rescheduling/cancellation for all flights to/from Colombo has been extended till April 30, 2019."
Air India tweeted, "In view of the situation in #Srilanka #AirIndia has waived all charges for rescheduling/ cancellation of bookings on its flights to/ from Colombo for travel till April 24, 2019."
In addition, the airlines have requested passengers to report at least 4 hours in advance due to congestion and high-security checks at the airport.
There were disruptions and delays at the airport but no flight cancellations have been reported so far. A paradise for tourists, Sri Lanka receives over 2.5 million tourists every year.
Hopefully, normality will resume in the country quickly.
