Indian citizens can now apply for an eVisa for Japan via the Japan e-Visa system. It is a single-entry visa valid for up to 90 days. Japan tourist eVisa is applicable to Indian citizens and foreign nationals residing in India. The application must be submitted to the Japan Visa Application Centres operated by VFS Global. The visa is issued in electronic form (instead of the sticker visa issued before 1 April 2024). This visa issuance notice must be showed at the airport for check-in for which internet access is required. PDF, photo, screenshot or printed copy of the visa is not accepted.
Documents Required for Japan Visa for Indian Citizens
You need to submit photocopies of the following documents at the VFS centre at the time of appointment:
- Valid passport with more than two blank pages (you also need to submit old passports, if any)
- Photocopy of the first and last page of passport
- Duly filled visa application form
- 1 passport size photograph taken within the last 6 months. It should be 2 X 2 inch with a plain white background
- Confirm return or onward ticket (flight/cruise schedule to/from Japan)
- Proof of sufficient funds like latest Income Tax Return or bank statement of last 6 months
- Itinerary during stay in Japan including confirm hotel booking
Japan Visa for Indians Cost
Japan visa cost for Indian citizens is INR 500 per person. An additonal service charge of INR 800 per application is charged by the VFS Global. The payment has to be made in cash only at the VFS centre.

- Navgate to Temporary Visitor Visa section and download the application form (https://www.vfsglobal.com/one-pager/japan/india/delhi/pdf/visa-application-form-sep-2021.pdf)
- Fill out the application form with accurate information, print and sign it. Also prepare photocopies of the documents required
- Make an appointment to submit the visa application at the designated Visa Application Centre. You will receive a confirmation email, including your appointment letter, once the appointment is booked
- At the scheduled appointment, submit your visa application along with the required documents and pay the visa fees
- After submission, await email notification regarding the status of your visa application. You can track the application status on the VFS website using the reference number provided and your date of birth

Japan Visa Issuance Notice
Once the visa is issued, you will receive a "visa issuance notice" via email which you need to show at the airport for check-in. PDF, photo, screenshot or printed copy of visa issuance notice will not be accepted. The visa issuance notice provided on email has two dimensional barcode. You need to have internet access to open the visa issuance notice on your mobile device. Scan the two dimensional barcode with your device at airport check-in and enter the required information to display the notice. Once you tap on "display", the electronice visa issuance notice appears and the countdown timer starts immediately, indicating the notice's validity period.
