Mahabaleshwar is a hill station located in the Western Ghats, in Satara district of Maharashtra. Apart from its strawberries, Mahabaleshwar is also well known for its numerous rivers, magnificent cascades and majestic peaks. It is among the most sought after weekend getaways from Pune & Mumbai, located about 120km south-west of Pune and 285km from Mumbai.

Mahabaleshwar is also a sacred pilgrimage place for Hindus as the Krishna river originates from here. Once a summer capital of the British, the hill station of Mahabaleshwar comprises of ancient temples, boarding schools, manicured and lush green dense forest, waterfalls, hills, valleys. It is often used as a base to visit the magnificent Pratapgad Fort, located an hour away.

Malcolm Peth, Old Kshetra Mahabaleshwar and a region of the Shindola village are the three villages that make up Mahabaleshwar.

Mahabaleshwar is known as the hub of berry farming in India, accounting for 85% of all the strawberry production in India. There are numerous farms on the Panchgani-Mahabaleshwar road which produce raspberries, mulberries and blueberries along with the famous strawberries.

Mahabaleshwar Strawberries are seasonal which are produced between October–November and April–May. These strawberries are then used to produce jams, ice-creams, milkshakes, crushes, strawberry wine, and strawberry jelly toffee. Better to stay near Mahabaleshwar bus stand. After sunset, the whole area between Panchgani and Mahabaleshwar becomes very deserted.

One of the best destination in summer, wonderful and memorable experience from the Mahableshwar Plan. At least for 2-3 days spend here.The boating tracking view atmosphere awesome experience ever.

I visited Mahabaleshwar during the summers. It was a respite from scorching heat as Mahabaleshwar is a hill station. One has to travel along the beautiful green roads for sure. The place is also famo (Read More)us for good quality fruits and vegetables. You can also enjoy seeing the strawberry and raspberry farms. For jam and jelly lovers, the Mapro food gardens will be a paradise. Jellies, candies and jams of different flavours are available at reasonable prices. I bought a pack of 100 jellies for a Rs. 200 and they were worth it. Venna lake, Panchgani and Pratapgadh Fort are other not-to-miss tourist attractions in Mahabaleshwar.
