Abuja is the capital city of Nigeria. One of Africa's fastest growing cities, it is famous for the giant Aso rock Monolith, a prominent part of the cityscape visible throughout the area. It is one of the few planned cities of Africa, dveloped for the sole purpose of being the capital city. Unlike many destinations in Africa, Abuja is a modern and wealthy city, a prime example of contemporary Nigerian architecture.
Abuja, unlike other cities in Africa, is quite safe for foreigners, thus being a centre for international relations in Nigeria as well as Africa. The landscape surrounding Abuja is iconic and critical to the city, with major buildings like the Presidential Complex, Nigerian National Assembly and the Nigerian Supreme Court located around the Aso Rock. The Zuma rock, found on the outskirts of the city, is an important natural structure of Nigeria, appearing on the 100 Naira note. As there are few skyscrapers in the city, these rocks dominate the cityscape, and the city is comprised of broad, well-connected roads and avenues. The rocky terrain is complemented well with the presence of multiple green spaces around the city, with the biggest ones being the Millenium Park and the National Arboretum.
