Prolifically spread over an area of 50 sq km, Phawngpui Blue Mountain National Park was founded in the year 1992. The name of this national park is kept after the lofty peak of the Phawngpui mountain which is also known as Blue Mountain.The place is surrounded by lush green trees and the picturesque beauty of this place will leave you enchanted. The melodious chirpings of many colourful birds echoes throughout the forest.Some of the birds include Falcon, Sunbirds, Dark rumped swift, Mountain bamboo partridge, Oriental pied hornbill, Purple cochoa, Black eagle, Waders, Larks and Pipits.

Etymology

Phawngpui might sound like a strange name and is definitely not easy to pronounce but it comes from the Lai word Phongpi which means Phulpui in Mizo and which translates to grassland in English. It is also believed by many that Phawngpui was an abode of God.

By Air: The nearest airport to reach Phawngpui is Aizawl Airport which is well connected with all the major cities in India. Aizawl Airport is located at a distance of 118 km from Phawngpui. Many rental cars are easily available from the airport which will take you to Phawngpui.
By Rail: The nearest railway station to Phawngpui is Silchar Railway Station which is at a distance of around 185 km. Many rental cars are available from the railway station which will take you to Phawngpui.
By Road: Phawngpui is situated at a distance of 118 km from Aizawl. The road connecting the two places is free of potholes and is a easy drive. You can either rent a car from here or take your own car. Many private and government operated buses run at regular intervals to go to Phawngpui.
