Established in 1976, Abilkhan Kasteev State Art Museum houses a remarkable collection of over 23,000 works of art, including traditional and contemporary Kazakh pieces, Soviet-era art, Russian works from the 17th to early 20th centuries, as well as European masterpieces from the 16th–20th centuries. The museum also boasts an impressive selection of East Asian art from China, Japan, India, and Korea.
You can see Dutch and Flemish paintings from the Northern Renaissance period, featuring works like Joachim Beuckelaer’s In the Shop and Abraham van Beijeren’s Still Life with Fish, alongside dramatic biblical scenes from Flemish artists such as Frans Francken the Younger. While strolling through the galleries, you’ll experience everything from ancient landscapes and vibrant still lifes to portraits of historical figures and festive scenes.
