The A. Kasteyev State Museum of Arts stands as the largest art museum in Kazakhstan, situated in Almaty. Its inception traces back to September 16, 1976, combining collections from two older museums. One was from 1935, called the Shevchenko Kazakh State Gallery, and the other from 1970, known as the Republic Museum of Decorative and Applied Art. Later, in 1984, they renamed it to honor the esteemed Kazakh artist─ Abilkhan Kasteev.

Boasting an extensive collection of over 23,000 works, the museum offers a diverse array of artistry, spanning historic and contemporary Kazakhstani art, Soviet-era pieces. Russian artworks from the 17th to early 20th centuries, Western European art spanning the 16th–20th centuries, and art from East Asia, including contributions from China, India, Japan, and Korea. This comprehensive collection reflects a broad spectrum of artistic expressions, providing visitors with a glimpse into various cultural influences and artistic movements across time and geography.
