Araku Tribal Museum

Opened in 1996 by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, the Araku Tribal Museum depicts the tribal culture of Andhra Pradesh. From utensils, jewellery, hunting tools to wedding photographs, the museum gives a taste of what traditional tribal lives look like.

Located at a distance of just 200 metres from the Araku bus station, the museum is not historical but has been constructed to enlighten people about the tribal way of life, with the display of the lifestyle of about 19 tribes living in the vicinity. While tribal artworks adorn the walls, local Mayur and Dhimsa dances are exhibited at one of the sections on the museum.

Interestingly, the museum is home to a fortune teller with a parrot who speaks only the local language and whose predictions are believed to have been right. One can also go boating in the pond nearby or relax by cycling around the museum. The two-storied building is an excellent place to get souvenirs; the money for which goes to the locals as one of their sources of employment.
