- If you are a non-Indian national, then you would need to get a 'Restricted Area Permit' to visit these islands, especially if you are coming via sea.

Located in the Bay of Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands is an archipelago consisting of about 600 islands out of which only around 36 islands are inhabited. The archipelago is divided into two grou (Read More)ps of islands - the Andaman Islands and the Nicobar Islands. Of these, only 9 islands in the Andaman Islands group are open for tourists. In earlier times, the islands were referred to as Kalapani for their notorious penal settlement. Pristine beaches, gorgeous corals, fascinating marine life, adventurous water sports and the remain of Stone Age culture draw multitudes of tourists to these islands every year. These islands are covered with lush forests and endless varieties of exotic flora and fauna. Incredible corals and marine life, crystal clear water and mangrove-lined creeks lure travellers to these picturesque islands. while the sandy beaches form as nesting homes to turtles, animals such as spotted deer, wild boar, gecko, crab-eating macaque and python can be spotted in the 86% area still covered by dense forests.

I stayed in Havelock island for a day. It is easily reachable by ferry. There are a lot of quirky cafes. The night life is vibrant while the day is peaceful. I scuba dived here and was awestruck by th (Read More)e colourful underwater life. I suggest you stay here for more than a day roaming around and spend time mingling with other friendly foreign tourists.

If you visit Andaman island and leave without going to Ross Island, you are going to regret it big time. It is like an abandoned city were people from East India Company once lived lavishly. The high (Read More)light is the Light and Sound show which tells the history of the island. It is carried out every evening and it left me dumbfounded. Do not miss it.

My experience with the Cellular Jail was a bit unusual as it was a mixture of pain and pleasure. While the lush greenery, beautiful scenic view from the terrace and a peaceful environment were captiv (Read More)ating; the narrow cells, gallows and work-shed testifying to the dark truths of the infamous ?Kaale Pani ki saza? were extremely heart wrenching. The lights and sounds show in the evening took us back to those times, talking about the experiences of the inmates and gave us a sense of pride. Make sure you get the tickets well in time as they get sold out quickly. Don?t forget to take your Debit card with you as it would be needed to buy the tickets.

NORTH BAY ISLAND is a part of the Andaman Islands and provides a range of water sports and activities like Scuba diving, sea walking and glass bottom ride. I did scuba diving, which is good for begin (Read More)ners but if you seek a very adventurous experience, then this is probably not the place for you. Also, in case you are not interested in any water activities or if you're going to Havelock Island, you might want to skip North Bay as this island is not a great option for just chilling on the beach, has little food options and the water isn't very clean as compared to beaches on Havelock Island which also provide these facilities. I think the price charged for these activities (Rs. 3500-4000) is not worth the experience and there are other better places for water sports/activities.

Whether you want to enjoy some time in peace and relax or a vacation full of adventure, Andaman and Nicobar is the place to visit! There are two routes of visiting Andaman; through Chennai and throug (Read More)h Kolkata. I went via Kolkata and enjoyed some time there as well. I visited the Cellular Jail in Port Blair where we encountered the ?Jarawas?(indigenous tribe). The Cellular Jail also has a light and sound show which explains the history of ?Kala Paani? in a very creative way. I next went to Havelock via cruise and tried various cuisines and sea food and also went snorkelling and scuba diving there. Although scary, these experiences were worth the time, money and courage. I also went on a boat with a transparent panel at the bottom that enabled us to see the life under water. In all, the food, culture, artefacts, special wooden and shell jewellery and the adventure make the journey worth it and very enjoyable!
