Devils Punchball Waterfall is one of New Zealand’s most impressive waterfalls and is located in the heart of Arthur’s Pass in the Canterbury region. There is a walking track that leads to this stunning 131m waterfall and you can build up your anticipation by walking this track. It is graded as a moderate 2km return track and takes an hour to complete. You will pass beautiful scenery and lush green beech trees. The area is great for bird watching and kiwi sightings.
The waterfall is a 2 hour’s drive from Christchurch and the walking track begins at the end of Arthur’s Pass Village. On the walking track, you can view the Bealey River and Punchbowl Creek over two bridges and then zigzag up 240 steps to a viewing area just below the falls. The waterfall can be seen from the highway but it is worth enjoying from the viewing area. The best time to visit the waterfall is during winter with the background of snow-capped peaks and a snowy track.
