The Bangkok National Museum exhibits magnificent collections of art and artifacts reflecting Thai culture. Nestled on an erstwhile land of the 18th century, Wang Na Palace, or the National Museum, was originally established by King Rama V to display the gifts and antiques given to him by his father. Free guided tours in English and French are conducted on Wednesday and Thursday at 9:30 AM.
The Sivamokhaphiman Hall features the Thai history gallery displaying exhibits from Sukhothai to the Rattanakosin periods. One can see many decorative arts, ancient sculptures, precious stones, ceramics, clothing and textiles, gold treasures, traditional musical instruments, woodcarving, and collection are Chinese weapons from all over Southeast Asia in the Archaeological and Art History collections. Other than that, the museum also features religious and ceremonial artifacts, the Viceroy's throne, and an extraordinary collection of Buddha images arranged according to the timeline. One can also enjoy the tours in Japanese on Wednesdays and German on Thursdays only. Photography is not allowed inside the museum complex.
