With the carefully reconstructed debris of the aircraft, a somber environment and thousands of memories, the Museum of Memory of Ustica lies in the Italian city of Bologna. A shrine to the victims of the Ustica Massacre, was set up by the Association of Relatives of the victims of the tragic event.
On the 27th of June 1980, a small commercial flight destined to Palermo from Marconi Airport in Bologna took the lives of 81 people on board . French artist Christian Boltanski created this exhibit with 81 lightbulbs descending from the ceiling that go on and off to evoke the rhythm of the heartbeat of the missing people. Also, hanging on the walls are 81 black mirrors representing the darkness and the mystery.
All these emotions and silence is accompanied by feeble voices, whispering simple phrases, daily concern to represent the thoughts of passengers on board. Relics of the objects owned by the passengers of flight are carefully photographed and collected by artists in a "List" which is stored in black crates. There is also a small room where a short film is presented to uncover the history of the crash.
