Papagayo Beach, Canary Islands Overview

Situated in Lanzarote and locally called the bay or shell beach due to its shape the Papagayo beach captivates your mind and soul with its angelic white sand and emerald green still, crystal clear water (like in a swimming pool). It is the most popular beach in Lanzarote.

Papagayo is the most beautiful and famous beach in Lanzarote and one among a collection of 5 that lace its shoreline. The others include Playa Mujeres, Playa de la Cera, Caleta del Congrio and Puerto Muelas. The last two are comparatively less frequented and thus a better option if you are looking for a more concealed getaway. The site is neither stretched, nor too short, the waves aren’t completely restrained, but bubbly with warm beach-like fervor; it strikes a perfect balance in its appeal and features.

The Papagayo beach is also a place where parents need not worry about their children who’d want to enjoy the beauty of its shallow depths and its apt for snorkeling as well. Another interesting offering nearby is the natural monument of Los Ajaches, just a few minutes along the track. The place is secluded and also has a snug beach bar and offers parking (paid) and camping facilities as well.

Must Know Before You Visit Papagayo Beach

Other Important Objective Information : 1. Please note that as gorgeous and mesmerizing as these natural havens are, they may be quite difficult to access for those with physical disabilities or people who have trouble walking as there are only dirt roads for cars and similar rough paths that lead up to the beach.
2. Before visiting, please search for the tide levels and visit on days when the level is low as it will be easier to get around.
3. The nearest resort to the Papagayo beaches which lie to the south of Lanzarote is the Playa Blanca, around 10 km from the beach area.
4. Walking to the beaches from the park isn’t recommended as the heat gets unbearable during afternoons, bikes are available for rent so you can make use of that facility.
