The Caumsett State HIstoric Park Preserve is located in the village of Lloyd Harbour an hour’s drive away from downtown New York City. Originally a private estate belonging to the Marshall Field business family, this park is now one of New York’s most historic and elegant state parks.
The century old buildings of the estate are still scattered around the park and have been repurposed for educational purposes like hosting environmental education programs and housing the Lloyd Harbour Historical Society.
The park itself is landscaped beautifully and surrounded by forested areas that are great for hiking. There is a strong focus on conserving high quality bird habitats in this park, making it a treat for bird watchers as they get to see rare birds in their natural surroundings just an hour away from the city. There is also a large lake within the park with a small picturesque beach and visitors can obtain permits to go scuba diving in it as well.
