Angelokastro Castle, Corfu Overview

Located on top of a rock 305 m above sea level, Angelokastro is one of Greece's most important Byzantine castles. It was built in the 13th century and sits atop a steep hill near the village of Krini on Corfu's northwest coast. There is only one way to reach the castle, by climbing a set of stairs. The castle offers beautiful panoramic views of the northern parts of the island and the bays of Paleokastritsa village. Visitors can explore the ruins, including ancient walls and remnants of a chapel.

The inner part of the castle contains an acropolis, garrison and graves, a church devoted to Archangel Michael at the highest point of the citadel, and the ruins of a tower. There is a path that leads to the foundations of the Agios Ioannis church and is truly historic and mesmerizing. There's also an ancient church present. At the bottom of this castle are a cafeteria and a souvenir shop.
