Saint Spyridon Church, Corfu Overview

Saint Spyridon Church, constructed between 1589 and 1594, is situated in the heart of Corfu's Old Town. This Greek Orthodox church houses the relics of Saint Spyridon, the island's patron saint, renowned for his miracles and protection over Corfu. The church's bell tower, the tallest in the Ionian Islands, is a prominent feature of Corfu's skyline. Visitors often explore the church's richly decorated interior, venerating the saint's relics and admiring the intricate iconostasis and ceiling paintings.

The locals looked up to Agios Spyridon as a savior because he had saved the Ionion island multiple times from the Ottoman invasion and, therefore, had immense faith in him.  It is a beautiful white church that houses the relics of the ‘patron saint and protector’ It is the most important religious monument of Corfu where people can see, pray and touch the silver casket where his preserved Holy body is rested, maintaining the temperature of a living body. The building has beautiful interiors, follows the typical Venetian architecture, and is very atmospheric.
