Nieuwe Church is one of the most famous landmarks of Delft. Its historical importance aside, the church is a truly marvelous work of architecture. Its gothic style is pronounced, and the tower forms an integral part of the cityscape offering mesmerizing views as far as Rotterdam.
Literally translating to 'New Church', the church is anything but new. This 600 year old church hosts the tomb of nearly every member of the royal family of Orange-Nassau since William the Silent in 1584, in the famous mausoleum designed by Hendrick and Pieter de Keyser. There are two sections of the crypt, the newer one was used for the first time in 1822, and the older one is under the tomb of WIlliam the Silent. The Royal Vault is not open to the public, and is only accessible to members of the royal family.
