Capturing the city's rich heritage, the Eastern Gate was built in the 15th century and is the only surviving gate tower of the city. It is a beautiful Brick Gothic northern European architecture. Strolling along the outside of the gate in itself will offer you some scenic views of the canal.
Oostpoort for long served as the identity of the city of Delft. Artists through centuries have used the iconic towers of the East Gate in many of their works, as they were thought to be the perfect representation of the grandeur of the city. Though the upper floors of the building are now a private residence, the ground floor displays a varying collection of arts.
