The Khalifa International Stadium is also known as the Qatar National Stadium. It is one of the venues for the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be hosted in Doha. It is located in Al Rayyan, west of Doha. With an intended seating capacity of 52,000, it is considered to be Qatar’s main football stadium and is a part of the Doha Sports City complex.
Opened in 1976, the stadium is named after the former Emir of Qatar, Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani. The unique double-arched shape is its most distinguishing feature. The stadium has hosted several sports events, such as the Arabian Gulf Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup™, and IAAF World Athletics Championships. The Villagio Mall, a park, and two high-end hotels are at a short distance from the stadium.
