"Beautiful Town of Ratnapura"

Embilipitiya Tourism

Nestled in the heart of Sri Lanka's Southern Province, Embilipitiya is approximately 195 km southeast of Colombo and serves as a gateway to some of the island's most stunning natural landscapes. Known for its lush greenery and proximity to Udawalawe National Park, this town is ideal for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers.

A key reason to visit is the chance to see elephants in their natural habitat, making it a perfect spot for safari experiences. Back in the 70s, the town only featured two to three small boutiques. And because of the Udawalawe development project, the town is now thriving, and it boasts one of the modern infrastructures in Sri Lanka.

Now, because of the Greater Hambantota development project, it is turning out to be a commercial centre and a central hub in the country. This agricultural town is very close to Mattala International Airport as the six-lane road that leads to the airport connects from here. It is also the nearest city if visitors want to explore Sooriyawewa International Cricket Stadium.

Embilipitiya, in general, doesn’t feature many attractions or things to do. And because of this, visitors can’t find many accommodation options in this town. But, Udawalawe, which is less than 25 kilometres away includes some of the famous attractions and also a range of accommodations, to spend the perfect getaway.
