Entebbe

Situated next to Lake Victoria in Uganda, the city of Entebbe lies to the southwest of the country's capital city Kampala. The city holds political prominence in the country, with the official office and residence of the President of Uganda being located here.

Entebbe has some interesting options for tourists to explore.Uganda is known as the Pearl of Africa, and Entebbe doesn't disappoint. It has many options especially for the nature and wildlife enthusiasts such as the Botanical Gardens and the Wildlife Educational Centre. The Lake Victoria is a perfect place for an evening of quiet solitude, long walks and boat rides. There are also options to explore the Ssese Islands and the Chimpanzee islands. Entebbe is also home to the oldest golf course in Africa - the Entebbe Golf Course. The city is also perfect for soaking up some Ugandan culture and tradition, and sampling traditional cuisine like the ugali, luwombo, mandazi and the local gin concoction of waragi. The word entebbe comes from the Lugandan language and translates to seat or chair, which refers Entebbe being the seat of the colonial governor during the country's British protectorate years. The Entebbe International Airport was the scene of the famous hostage and rescue operation against the Palestine and German military in mid 1970. Today, Entebbe, with its growing population of around seventy thousand, continues to play an important part in Ugandan politics.
