History

Firozabad was named after Firoz Shah Mansab Dar in 1566, during the reign of Akbar, the third emperor of the Mughal dynasty. The rule of the Jats of Mahawan in 1739 and the Marathas in the 18th century are significant influences in the region. Like the rest of the county, Firozabad too participated in the battle for freedom against British colonizers. The city was finally established as an independent district of the state of Uttar Pradesh in 1989, after previously being considered as an extension of Etawah, Aligarh, Sadabad and Agra, respectively in the past.
