A neo-gothic monument named after the Duke of Brunswick, the Brunswick Monument is a replica of the 14th-century tomb of the Scaligeri family in Verona. Located in Jardin des Alpes, it stands on a platform 25 metres long, surrounded by the marble figures of chimera, lions, and cain.
Born in 1804, the Duke was a musician, linguist and knight and a unique individual. He died in 1873 leaving his entire fortune to the city at the fulfilment of a condition, a massive funeral and a monument after his name. A mausoleum never existed in Geneva before this one was made, giving this place and piece its page in the history of this magnificent city.
