Hakuba is a picturesque ski resort village in Japan's Nagano Prefecture. Located in the beautiful Northern Alps, the village offers the best of both worlds – a tranquil getaway with plenty of exciting activities. With breathtaking views of Mt. Shirouma and the surrounding mountains, visitors can enjoy skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and other winter sports in the winter, and hiking, nature walks, hot-spring baths, and other outdoor activities in the summer.
The village is home to some of the best ski resorts in Japan, including Hakuba Goryu Ski Resort, Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field, and Hakuba 47 Winter Sports Park. With over 200 kilometers of ski slopes and several well-maintained terrain parks, Hakuba is an ideal destination for both beginner and advanced skiers. Other activities include snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and sledding. Hakuba is also home to a number of cultural attractions, including the historic Hakuba Iwatake Shrine and the Hakuba Happo-One Ski Resort. The village also hosts several festivals throughout the year, including the Hakuba Village Fireworks Festival in February and the Hakuba Summer Festival in August. When visiting Hakuba, it is important to remember that the winter months can be extremely cold. Visitors should pack appropriately and make sure to check the weather forecast before heading out. Additionally, an international driver’s license is required for any car rentals. Finally, make sure to sample the local specialty – the Hakuba “no-mai” (rice dumplings).
