History of Ram Niwas Bagh Jaipur

The eclectic garden was built in 1868 during the reign of Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh. Colonel Sir Swinton Jacob was appointed to design it. The landscaped garden is located right in front of the Albert Hall Museum which was built according to the Indo-Saracenic architecture.

The initial plan was to open the place as a Town Hall. However, Madho Singh II, the successor of Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh, convinced everyone to open it to the public as a museum. Originally, the Ram Niwas Garden occupied an area of about 76 acres, but due to modernization to provide more facilities for visitors, the area has been reduced down to a little over 30 acres.
