Gandhi Square is a major landmark of Johannesburg, where Mahatma Gandhi once had legal offices. It is located off Rissik street. Today, it is a bustle of activity with many stores and eateries located around the square. There is an imposing statue of Gandhiji in his lawyer’s garb in the centre of the square.
A plaque on the base of the statue details Mahatama Gandhi’s life and movements in South Africa. The Square is also known for the hemp retailers and the Carlton Centre skyscraper, which is home to one of the largest malls in the city, and the viewing deck on the 50th floor which provides a stunning view of the city.
