Kalmunai is a beach city in the Ampara district of Sri Lanka. Situated in the Eastern province, it has seen a profound history like no other place has. Kalmunai is bestowed with beautiful beaches and aesthetic landscapes that historically it was considered the King’s Royal farm and resort town. There are lush green trees and paddy fields across the side of the roads, and the narrow streams have small river birds that nestle there.
There is an entire state of harmony between nature and its beings that add to the serenity that Kalmunai commands over its people. The Kalmunai beach has discerning characteristics unlike the other shores of Sri Lanka.
The shores are warm, and the sand is golden, sun-kissed with the fishing catamarans docked by the coast, and one can witness how they catch fish in the early mornings. There are fresh food stalls alongside that serve seafood delicacies marinated in Sri Lankan spices. Kalmunai links Colombo and various other small beach towns by road; driving here across cities is an exciting leisure activity too.
