Koh Samet Tourism

Located about 168 kms from Bangkok and 74 Kms from Pattaya to the south, Koh Samet is a popular weekend getaway for locals and tourists alike. This slender island, known for its pristine blue waters, colourful coral reefs, marine life and several powdery white beaches, was once a backpackers haven but now caters to a wide variety of travellers. Several boats and ferries can be availed at Nuan Thip Pier in Ban Phe to reach Koh Samet. To reach the pier, tourists can simply hop on a bus from any major city or town.

The nightlife is what most weekend visitors and partygoers chase when coming to Koh Samet. The northern side of the island features rave parties, fire juggling shows and beachside barbecues with lots of drinks to go along with it. Hat Sai Kaew is the main spot for wild parties, loud beachside cafes and bars and even speedboats and jet skis to take it up a notch. As one goes down south, the beaches become relatively quieter and are home to many resorts and guesthouses catering to families and honeymooners looking for a relaxing beachside stay. Ao Phutsa is a particular favourite for such travellers.

Despite being very touristy, Koh Samet is not very developed in terms of infrastructure. Much of the island is covered by dense jungles and rocky terrain. Owing to this, tourists can hike along unpaved trails and visit the smaller bays to find some serenity. Koh Samet is an ideal destination for those who wish to experience an affordable coastal vacation in Thailand but are somewhat short on time.
