A historically relevant 1000-year-old World Heritage Site, Westminster Abbey in the City of Westminster is one of London’s most regal and noteworthy religious churches. It is located along the western bank of the River Thames and is one of the world’s best churches.
Located near many other well-known London attractions like the Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey sees over a million visitors from around the world. It has been in existence since 960 AD. It is known for having hosted coronations, weddings, and for being a burial site for the English and British monarchs back in the day.
It is officially named the Collegiate Church of St. Peter at Westminster, governed by Dean & Chapter of the city. Before 1560, the Westminster Abbey was a cathedral, but post that, it is under the jurisdiction of the sovereign, and no longer an abbey or cathedral, given the status of ‘Royal Peculiar’. This place has seen over 16 royal weddings and has been a burial site for many great people in history.
