Less than a 2 hour drive from downtown NYC, the city of Madison on the coast of Connecticut makes for a quaint day trip away from the hustle and bustle. Known for its independent family businesses and art scenes, Madison houses one of the country’s best independent bookstores and an art cinema which opened in 1912 and still does first run screenings of independent art films.
Another landmark, the Hammonasset Beach State Park, has more than 1000 acres of beach area and is the largest of many picturesque beaches in the city.
Madison also has rich architectural heritage as it was home to a lot of the earliest European settlers. Hence, there are multiple buildings from the 17th century which have now been restored and made into museums or have been opened to public access so visitors can get a glimpse of American history.
